Health Care
What We Do in Uganda
Strengthen health centers and support community health workers, so more people in more places can get holistic services they need, from contraception and maternal care to nutrition and sanitation.
Promote innovative approaches and adoption of new technologies to increase the number of a young people able to make healthy decisions, exercise their rights, and experience positive sexual and reproductive health outcomes.
Accelerate universal, right-based, and equitable access to quality, integrated HIV prevention, care, and treatment services.
Strengthen national and sub-national family planning programs to reduce inequitable access and unmet need for contraception.
Use social and behavior change approaches to eliminate stigma for rights-based health and support quality family planning for all through community dialogues, target group discussions, and digital platforms.
Incorporate adolescent-friendly service delivery into existing sexual and reproductive health services, including early entry points, such as HPV vaccination.
Support the elimination of gender discrimination and inequality through gender asynchronous and gender-transformative approaches.
At ACFAL, we help partners build an integrated platform to address the high-impact health needs identified at the community level. This saves governments and funders a tremendous amount of money and gives families one person they can call for all their basic health needs.
ACFAL is a Non-Governmental Organization with the mission to improve the Health and Well-Being of Communities through Capacity Building and Innovative Leadership. This is achieved through four strategies; policy and advocacy; improving access to health; strengthening ACFAL as an institution and developing a strong unified membership and research, learning and innovation.
Over the years ACFAL has horned operations at the national, regional and global level, with advocacy partnership pushing for access to people centered and sustainable health services, towards the realization of healthy people and empowered communities.

Defeating Childhood Diseases
ACFAL trains and supports community health workers to educate families to prevent the leading causes of child mortality: malaria, diarrheal disease, and pneumonia, including education about water, sanitation, and proper nutrition.
Saving Newborn Lives
We place a strong emphasis on ensuring that newborns can access life-saving community-based primary health services. The first month of life carries the greatest risk of child mortality; WHO data indicates that 7,000 newborns die every day, and their mothers also face some of the greatest health risks immediately post-partum.
Family Planning and Healthy Pregnancies
We work to ensure that all pregnant women have at least four antenatal clinic visits and give birth in a health facility. To help women plan and space their pregnancies, our supported community health workers provide comprehensive family planning education and provide contraceptives.
Immunization
The urgency of this work has only risen with the onset of COVID, as prior pandemics and epidemics have had a detrimental impact on immunization uptake and given the promise of using the learnings for the COVID and malaria vaccines.
